St Birinus Catholic Parish is part of the Archdiocese of Birmingham Gift Aid scheme.
The parish coordinators Clive and Maureen Bosley (see Contacts) keep a local record of GiftAid donors and their gifts. Each year a claim is made, by the diocese, for the return of UK Income Tax on the monies logged to persons who -
- are UK Taxpayers and
- have requested, by filling in and returning, a Gift Aid deed which asks that their tax on the gift be reclaimed for the use of the Parish.
Each year the diocesan authorities forward for to St Birinus Parish the tax returned minus a modest percentage fee per person for their part in managing the claim.
The percentage refunded to Parishes is currently 25% less the Diocesan levyof 6%
The donor must pay Income Tax at Standard Rate or Capital Gains Tax on a sum at least equivalent to his/her annual gift. Higher Rate tax payers can claim a refund of the tax paid at higher rate above 25%.
There are at least three ways by which the fund can be administered. By telephone, by signed envelope bearing a signed statement of tax status and address and by a GiftAid Deed.
The first of these methods is not used in this diocese as without a signed deed the coordinator is left vulnerable.
The small printed envelope is not suitable for weekly collection use in this diocese due to the charge levied per envelope. This method is best suited to larger and occasional gifts and envelopes are available from Fr John Osman or the Parish Coordinators.
The Gift Aid deed is the pathway of choice in this Parish/Diocese as its transparency is manifest to HMRC and Diocese alike and it is best suited to regular and repeated sums.
A "flyer" for this scheme can be found on the Documents page of this website under St Birinus Catholic Parish - GiftAid arrangements.
